Performance and features
Will this increase my FPS?
It can, when Windows is what's holding your game back, but nobody can honestly promise a number. Nexus removes common bottlenecks: background game recording, power settings that cap the CPU, mouse acceleration, network adapter power saving and similar. Results depend on your hardware, drivers, games and what was already set.
Measure before and after with the built-in Benchmark. Nexus doesn't capture in-game FPS itself, so you can enter the numbers from your game's own benchmark to compare.
Safety and privacy
Is it safe? Can I undo everything?
Every change is previewed with its exact current and new value. The original is recorded before anything is written, and the result is verified afterwards. Restore Center can undo one change, a group, or the last change, and it manages Windows System Restore points.
A few actions are one-way by nature: uninstalling OneDrive, removing Store apps, deleting temporary files and running repairs. They are labelled, ask for an extra confirmation, and every removed Store app keeps a reinstall link. Read how changes are made.
Does it disable Windows Defender or Windows Update?
No. Nexus never disables Defender, the Firewall, Windows Update, SmartScreen or VBS/HVCI. It never edits boot configuration or the hosts file, and never installs drivers. The full list, with reasons, is on the Safety page.
Why does it ask for administrator approval?
Nexus runs as a standard user. Some settings can only be written by an administrator, such as machine-wide policies, services and scheduled tasks. For those changes Windows shows one UAC prompt, for that change only. The elevated helper accepts only IDs from Nexus' own catalog, and nothing else runs elevated.
If you cancel the prompt, nothing is changed and the result says Requires administrator.
Does it run in the background or at startup?
No. There is no background service and no startup entry. Nexus does nothing until you open it.
Does it collect data?
The app sends no telemetry. Settings, history and logs stay on your PC in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NexusOptimizer. When it starts, it checks your Nexus account: it sends your sign-in token, a one-way ID for this PC, the PC's name and the app version, and nothing about your files, settings or games. Otherwise it uses the network only for live latency probes (which you can change or turn off), tests you start, app installs you start and links you click.

Compatibility
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 11 64-bit is tested. Windows 10 64-bit (version 1809 or later): supported. You also need a DirectX 11 GPU (a software fallback is included) and about 10 mb of disk space.
Tweaks that only work on some Windows versions or editions say so, and show as not applicable instead of pretending to work.
Why does Windows SmartScreen or my antivirus warn me?
The app is not yet code-signed. New apps without an established reputation can trigger the SmartScreen message "Windows protected your PC". Check the SHA-256 checksum on the Download page, then choose More info, then Run anyway.
Tools that change system settings are sometimes flagged by antivirus heuristics. If yours flags Nexus, please report it to your antivirus vendor as a false positive and let us know.
Does it work with anti-cheat games?
Nexus doesn't inject into games or read their memory. Tweaks are Windows settings. The crosshair is a separate, click-through overlay window drawn on top of the game, and some games or tournaments don't allow overlays like that, so check your game's rules before using it.
Can I use it on a laptop?
Yes. Power tweaks change the plugged-in settings of your active power plan and state their battery trade-offs. Settings that only make sense on desktops are marked not applicable on battery-powered PCs.
Licenses, updates and refunds
Is there a free version?
Yes. Download Nexus and sign in with a free account. Free lets you watch live CPU, GPU, memory and ping, run the System Analyzer, browse all 402 tweaks, apply the General tweaks, clean up temporary files and undo anything in Restore Center.
What's the difference between Standard and Pro?
Standard ($14.99) unlocks everyday tuning: all 6 Optimize packs, tweaks on 8 everyday pages, startup and background apps, Fixes & Repairs, App Removal and the Network & Ping tests.
Pro ($29.99) unlocks everything: Optimize everything in one click, the Networking, Advanced and Services tweaks, Game Booster, Benchmark, the Crosshair overlay, App Optimizer, the bufferbloat test and DNS changer, refresh-rate and polling-rate tools, and tweak profiles. The comparison table lists every feature.
Can I upgrade from Standard to Pro later?
Yes, for the difference: $15. Choose Upgrade to Pro on your account page. Pro unlocks the next time Nexus starts.
Is there a license key?
No. When you buy, the plan is added to your Nexus account. Open the app and sign in with the same email and password; that's the whole activation.
How many PCs can I use it on?
Every plan, Free included, works on 1 PC at a time. Your account shows which PC is signed in.
Signing in again on the same PC is always fine. To use Nexus on a different PC, free the old one first (see below).
Can I move Nexus to a new PC?
Yes. On the old PC, undo the changes you want reverted in Restore Center, then choose Sign out and free this PC in Settings. If the old PC is gone, remove it on your account instead. Then sign in on the new one.
Do I need to be online to use it?
Yes. Nexus checks your account each time it starts, so it needs an internet connection to open. Once it's open, tweaks, packs, Restore Center and benchmarks work without the network.
How do refunds work?
You can ask for a refund within 14 days of purchase. Ask on our Discord server with your account's email address. After a refund your account goes back to Free (or to Standard if you refund a Pro upgrade), and Restore Center keeps working, so you can always undo your changes. Details are in the refund policy.
Do I get updates?
Everyone can download the newest version for free. Standard and Pro include 12 months of updates. New versions are listed in the changelog.
Do I get an invoice? Is VAT included?
Stripe is the merchant of record for your purchase. It calculates VAT or sales tax for your country at checkout, shows the total before you pay, and emails your receipt.

Is there a student discount?
Not at the moment.
